File#3: USS Strider

 General Information

Designation: U.S.S. Strider

Registry#: NCC - 97313

Class: Alita Heavy Strike Wing Escort

Christened: 2410

Description

[!] Contains spoilers for "Vestige Rekindled" [!]

The U.S.S. Strider was an Alita Class starship, a class of combat vessels developed to challenge the Iconian threat. The Strider itself did not see any conflict in that war, having been completed after the peace treaty was signed. It was assigned to patrol the Celes sector following the war.

During its time on patrol, the ship rescued civilian freighters S.S. Comberth, and S.S. Sand Island. It also contributed to the relief of an as yet officially named deep space colony in the Arucanis Arm.

Captain Draken, officers, and crew were set to receive an honors for their contributions to the relief of a war-torn galaxy. However, when Strider arrived at Starbase 114, it received an unexpected order to head to system FN-2011 at maximum warp. Draken and his officers and crew were to investigate anomalous readings that have emanated from that system. They gladly took the assignment.

Contact with Strider was lost when it reached the FN-2011 system. It was later confirmed to have been destroyed along with the deaths of all officers and crew.

Crew Complement

( Those who have appeared in the Vestige Rekindled Series )

Senior Officers

Captain Franciszek Draken
- Commanding Officer

Franciszek wanted nothing more than to return to his farm. Duty is rarely accommodating.

Commander Sydney Tomcat
- First Officer

Sydney had aspirations for a command of her own. She made it a point to study every captain's log she could get her hands on.

Lt. Commander Ed Gripen
- Operations Officer

Ed liked to play golf in the holodeck. Perhaps a bit too much.

Lt. Commander Vivaldi Rafale
- Chief Engineer

Vivaldi knew where every bolt on the ship was. He also had a sixth sense that always alerted him whenever someone was not doing something right. It didn't matter where on the ship they were.

Lieutenant Alice Chengdu
- Communications Officer

Alice was an omniglot who had mastered seven different languages. She didn't plan on stopping there.

Lieutenant. Zofia Berkut
 - Science Officer

Zofia loved to challenge somebody's thesis; even when she knew their argument was solid beforehand.

Lieutenant. K'ng Rap'tor
 - Tactical Officer/Chief of Security

K'ng joined Starfleet at the outbreak of the 2409 Klingon-Federation War. He did not approve of Chancellor J'mpok's leadership.

Lieutenant. Ty'Phoon
 - Medical Officer

Ty'Phoon's out sized interest in diseases had concerned some people. However, he was a very good doctor.

Enlisted Crew

Ensign Tricia Eagle
 - Fresh from the Academy

Tricia had two passions in life: cooking and Starfleet. Not particularly good at either, but she would not stop striving to improve.

File#2: The Materials Prospecting Division

Established in Starfleet's early days, the Materials Prospecting Division was tasked with obtaining valuable materials that were found in environments too hazardous for civilian contractors. Its standard operating procedure involved first identifying a need for a specific material, followed by the identification and evaluation of a prospect world, and finally mining the material if conditions were satisfactory. Acceptable conditions are that a world must be devoid of life, and permission granted by the Starfleet Command, before mining operations could begin. "Worlds" included planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, nebulae, comets, and other stellar bodies.

While the location and mining of valuable resources forms the cornerstone of the Materials Prospecting Division, it can also pursue the acquisition of materials from sources that are within the Federation - logistical operations - or without the Federation - trade activities. In the 25th century, mining is only conducted when rare, hard-to-get materials that cannot be acquired through other means. Mining is also acceptable in cases where materials are in incredibly high demand by Starfleet and the usual input sources cannot produce enough supply, as is the case post Iconian War.

Note that the Material Prospecting Division's primary beneficiary is Starfleet.

In the 25th century, the division survives despite the glut of materials present in the United Federation of Planets. As it turns out, a specialized mining organization with Starfleet know-how is desired when you want to extract valuable materials from Y-class worlds and the like. It is these Y-class planets that the Materials Prospecting Division will presently find itself operating on. The organization has 3 subdivisions: Oscar, Delta, and Lambda.

Oscar

Oscar teams are the oldest and most versatile subdivision of Materials Prospecting. The backbone of the organization, this subdivision is charged with the evaluation of possible mining sites, to acquisition of materials when given the go-ahead. Materials often found on the agenda of Oscar teams included duranium, rubidium, Z-particles, and Craylon gas. Salvaged technology will find its way onto a team's itinerary every now and then.

Up to 50 Oscar teams were deployed at one time during the mid-23rd century. As of 2410, there are only 19 active Oscar Teams operating throughout the Federation.

Delta

The Delta subdivision is charged with the evaluation, acquisition, and processing of raw dilithium. This subdivision was established in the late 22nd century as Starfleet needed to identify sources of dilithium in order to aid the continued expansion of its fleet. As the years progressed, the role of this subdivision has diminished along with the rest of Materials Prospecting as technologies such as dilithium re-crystallization were introduced as well as an increasing availability of civilian contractors as a byproduct of the ever expanding membership of the Federation.

The most Delta teams ever to have been deployed at one time was 24, and that was during the Dominion War. As of 2410, there are only 7 Delta Teams operating throughout the Federation.

Lambda

Lambda is the newest subdivision of Materials Prospecting. Established in the late-24th century, this division was charged with the evaluation and acquisition of raw latinum. As the Ferengi Commerce Association expanded its dealings, so too did the adoption of latinum as payment. Since the need to use platinum to conduct business dealings, especially those handled by Starfleet Intelligence, the acquisition of raw latinum was added to the Material Prospecting Division's mission, and the Lambda teams were formed as a result. Then Lieutenant Nog was briefly consulted when the subdivision's operating parameters were getting established. These parameters included what quality of ore was acceptable. Nog, as Captain of the Chimera, later sent a letter to the division's headquarters reiterating the importance of the "Great Material Continuum" was to any acquisition endeavor.

As of 2410, there are 3 Lambda teams operating throughout the Federation which is the most there's ever been.

File#1: Oscar 19

Delia Genome Ferraro

Human

Female

Age: 26

Rank: Lieutenant

Height: 5'11"

Delia Ferraro hails from the Genome colony, a world known for their genetic engineering. She knows the incident with the Enterprise-D very well. She left the colony and sought to travel the stars in order to put distance between herself and her designed origin. She wishes for nothing more than to build her own future in spite of what her genetics determined was her best role in society, security.

Delia's first tour of duty was aboard the USS Enterprise-F as an ensign during the Iconian War, where she proved herself to be a promising engineer. A matter she was proud of considering that she was not particularly gifted in fixing things, often burning the midnight oil to meet ends. After the war Delia was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the new leader of Materials Prospecting's Oscar 19, an assignment that was not her first choice.

Syn Indarax Th'Ansgar

Andorian

Thaan

Age: 31

Rank: Ensign

Height: 6'1"

Syn Th'Ansgar served half a year on the USS Brevity before deciding that life on board a starship was not for him. He transferred to the Materials Prospecting Division where he felt he could effect a greater contribution to the Federation in an area often overlooked by many. His commanding officer found this reason to be doubtful, but Syn persisted in his requests. He was assigned to Resource Acquisitions in 2409 to Oscar 10.

During his time serving with Oscar 10, Syn got to become friends with Blathma and Vinu. All three distinguished themselves from the rest of the team and not in the best way, but they did get the job done if never exceeding expectations. They were split off into Oscar 19 in the aftermath of the Iconian War as part of Prospecting's expansion efforts. Syn and the team got the assignment to Vestige over Oscar 18 even though 19 was the least capable of all the teams.

Blathma Miracht

Tellarite

Male

Age: 45

Rank: Ensign

Height: 4'9"

Serving in the Materials Prospecting Division for over ten years and counting, Blathma Miracht seems to be content with his current station in life. He does not appreciate disruptions to routine, preferring an orderly and predictable mining operations. During and since the Iconian War, Blathma had been robbed of routine missions.

Blathma was looking forward to the operation on Vestige as a return to normal. When Vinu -Oscar 19's previous commander- was arrested by Starfleet Security Blathma started to get the sinking feeling that the current assignment was going to have its share of surprising. He could not have been more right.

Unit EXOE-419 "Tax"

Rank: Ensign

Size:

- Length: 42cm

- Width: 21cm

Appearance:

- Metallic silver with gloss yellow highlights.

Tax has served with the Materials Prospecting division since 2407, and has been assigned to various teams including Oscar 3, Oscar 7, and Oscar 13. Most of that time was largely uneventful.

As for the name, only Blathma and Syn know the story behind it.

Unit EXOB-421 "Charlemagne"

Rank: Ensign

Size:

- Length: 42cm

- Width: 21cm

Appearance:

- Rust red with faded orange highlights.

The human definition of Charlemagne means "Charles the Great." and it is an appropriate description for this exocomp. What makes this Charles great? There has been no engineering task too great for him to conquer, so far at least.

One of the longest serving exocomps in Starfleet, Charlemagne has seen service in a variety of positions including Starbase 34, U.S.S. Belfast, and now Oscar 19 of Materials Prospecting. No one really knows when Charlemagne started serving Starfleet, but many believe it was sometime during or immediately after the Dominion War.

Unit EXOX-002 "Zoe"

Rank: Ensign

Size:

- Length: 36cm

- Width: 18cm

Appearance:
Matte black with metallic red highlights.

Among the first of the newest and as yet untested generation of exocomps, Zoe is outfitted with the most advanced technology Starfleet could offer. This includes a more efficient power system and a more powerful tool replicator. This means that Zoe has not only more power to spare when it comes to completing tasks, but that she can also produce tools previous iterations of exocomps could not.

Unbeknownst to Oscar 19, part of Zoe's unique tool set were designed and implemented by Starfleet Intelligence.
